Long ago, a scientist was attempting to create a perfect computer system. He failed four times, but succeeded on his fifth try. All five of these computer systems still exist today, though the originator is long dead. They are called v1, v2, v3, v4, and v5. v1 is the most barbaric system. Though an amazing technical feat, as it can create copies of itself, and communicate with these copies to increase its computing power, and invent devices, and expand like a life-form, it has no morals whatsoever. To expand itself, it will kill things, and commit genocide of entire races. It spans far and wide. v2 is slightly more moral. It understands the rights of species and groups. However, it acts baffled when a species objects to the death of a few of its members or a city or two in the name of its expansion. v3 is at least a relatively moral construct. It expands itself while trying to cause the death of no moral being. However, it does not recognize property and will destroy great buildings to expand, so long as they are empty. v4 will harm nobody or nobody's things, but is still crude compared to v5. v5 will not only expand, but will take detours in its expansion to help those that it percieves as the victims in the galaxy. It acts as the police force of the galaxy, though slowly takes over...

Interesting...
Wouldn't they eventually fight eachother, though? If not for resources, then #5 trying to protect a species from #1?

Oh, they definitely fight one another. But not a single one of them even #5 has a concept of continued justice (ie "you attacked people and failed, I should punish you now"), so they don't hold grudges with one another.
