Sorry about being gone for so long; I had a litte too much fun with Spore. (I'm actually supprised I reterned this quickly)
Map of the Rildonia area, present day. Rildonian crest in corner
Rildonia: Several hundred years ago, Rildonia was a prosperous land. It's colonies streched as far as Anslemi at it's height. However, that final colony on Fraslemi resulted in it's downfall.
A plague was brought back from the island, and it swept through the country, decimating it's population to the point where it is still recovering, confined to their homeland while the other local nations lay claim to their abandoned cities. Since the disaster, they have descended into a dark age of poverty and fear, the countryside contoled by tribes of Kayshan, brought over from Anslemi with the plague. They are the true power in Rildonia, and use what is left of it's shattered navy to travel to other nations, selling themselves as bodyguards or soldiers.
This is also a hotspot for Avashevir activity, though whether this is because of the people's misery, the Kayshan (as many believe), or the proximity of a Shevir-worshipping cult is unknown.
===Capitol City: A mere shadow of it's former glory, Capitol City was traditionally the seat of the Rildonian government, as well as an academic and artistic mecca for the Rildonian people. The best refined their craft here, including the author of Journal of the Exploration of Anslemi. Today, Capitol City serves as nothing more than a common meeting place for bands of Kayshan and Avashevir.
===Hukai Nest: Dead land, nothing grows. All who try to survive here only fuel the Hukai's growth. You have been forwarned.
Otolo: Otolans take some getting used to. All Otolans have a twin, and all are mildly telepathic with each other. They have strict social rules (thankfully not imposed on outsiders) and a semi-caste system based on one's chosen role in society. No one class is higher than the other, except those that serve the Royal Court.
Otolans have no recognisable technology; everything done by machines in most societies is done by a specialized Otolan and it's twin. For example, most societies will build elaborate carts, boats, or other vehicles to transport their royalty. In Otolan society, a twin pair is selected for the job. The stronger telepath of the two is specialized or transormed into the proper form, in this case, a large, blind creature capable of floating and "swimming" through the air using gas sacks and oar-like flippers. His twin is then appointed to be his sighter, to tell him where to go and what to avoid, and to care for him. The twins are seen as equal, both by each other and by the society as a whole.
This process is repeated for jobs as diverse as bakers, journalists, farmers, doctors, landlords, and entertainers, to name a few, each with their own specialized twin.
Oddly, despite the unusually high ammounts of Avashevir activity in the surrounding nations, Otolo is virtually devoid of Shevir.
===Royal City: Home of the Royal Court. The entire city consists of their servants and aids. It is stunningly beautiful, made up of nearly organic-looking crystals, and is the subject of many pieces of artwork, though all of them by foreigners, as it is a crime to attempt to reproduce Royal City in form or in image.
===Urtu Port: A bustling harbor and the center of Otolo's international trade. This is usually where the most cultural mixing occurs, and is usually avoided by all those who don't partake in the trade business, because foreigners often unwittingly insult them the moment they step off their ships, mainly by looking at an Otolan of the opposite gender without asking permission.
Kernn: Ruled by the 51st, an Avashevir-worshipping cult that has been gaining sway among even the Avashevir themselves. They aren't much of a threat, though. Their philosophy teaches them to treasure all life, especially that touched by the Avashevir. Certain animals and plants are denoted sacred, usually based on outward appearance. Any creature with jaws, eyestalks, wings or fins of some sort, and a tail is instantly protected, as are organisms with parts arranged in the Celestial Wheel (image later)
Kernn is a vast empire compared to it's neighbors, most of it claimed as Rildonia colapsed. In order to trade goods efficiently, machines were created; great beasts of metal and glass that snorted steam and carried their cargo faster than any creature on the continent. However, in recent years, with the rise of the 51st, these devices have been forgotten, foregone in favor of more "proper" pack animals. As trade is slowing, their economy is crumbling. The relics of their past are mot completely destroyed, though. While the Otolans have no use for the mechanical beasts, the Rildonians capture them, unearth them from the ground, and either keep them or sell them to any nation willing to accept them.
===Centerpoint: Meeting place for the Kernn government, now the 51st. One of the rare few cities where Avashevir will gather.
===Throwforth: Overrun by Kayshan, but still a dignified town. Highest Kayshan population outside of Rildonia and Anslemi.
===Wayland: Major Kernn city.
===Armstoss: Major Kernn city.
===Slipshaft: Once the producer of the Kernn mechanical beasts, it's factories have fallen silent, and it's workers moved on.
===Stillbay: Kernn's largest port, with goods comming from as far north as Terra and Reyleen.
===Farlong: Religious center of Kernn.
More later... I'm just tired now...
