"You idiot Carl! You activated Roo One's portal. Now we'll have to wait an hour! And Roo Two would have opened in thirty seconds! You don't get to go on this trip." The captain then sent Carl to his room and hoped he didn't blow anything up.

Wanderer sighed.
"Who wants a lesson on music history while we wait? At least half of it will just be music."

"Sure." said the Captain. "Is this purely human music history?" Time ticked by. Soon the buzzer buzzed. "Roo Two Portal activated. Roo Two or Roo One can now be activated from the Portal Remote. Please do not chew or otherwise unintentionally push buttons upon the Portal Remote." Roo Two opened before them. It was a vast land. It seemed to be layed out on a two-dimensional grid of tiles. Each tile was flat, but they were all at different elevations. Some shrubberies seemed to grow on nearby tiles. Rats were let loose and their paths were examined by camera. Unfortunately for the rats, they fell into a small pit, in which they were eaten by a lurking predator.

"Do we have the turrets this time?" asked Calvin.

"Yes. They're installed. Unless something has some resistance to death rays, we're good."

"Then let's load up and go." said Clavin.
This time, one or two members of the expedition brought guns, just in case.

Enormous, scaly mammoth creatures came over the hill. "Those better not be carnivores..." John Maroontee whispered.

The expedition members were on edge.
"Next time, tell Dr. South to come, so he can at least give us a guess at who eats what." said Martin.
"I'm not sure he'd be much help." replied Dr. Warse, shifting his gun slightly in anticipation of an attack.

Something odd was apparrent. As the creatures moved, the tiles under them lowered... "Are they denting the ground or what?" said John. "Wanderer, what's going on?" asked George.

"I think this one is infinite as well, though both up and down as well as side to side. The surface is made up of tile-things, which are pushed downward with weight, aparently. I suppose they can go as far as they want, and they've probably collectively "sunk" quite a ways since the universe's birth..."
Wanderer was getting worried... a Shard tightly connected to another was not uncommon, but this was a looser link, and with multiple Shards involved... He'd have to watch these Humans.

"I'll see if there's any reliable equation for the sink rate. That'll let us flatten a portion with sand to make an embassy..." Karen said.

"Allright, let's set up a test." suggested Dr. Onis. She placed one of her scanners on a tile, and used another to measure the rate at which it sunk.

"It seems to say that it sinks 1 centimeter for every x, where x is an irrational somewhere around 0.78 kilograms." LAH helpfully got weights to flatten out a portion for an embassy. Soon a flat bottom was placed to build the embassy on, of about an acre.

"Of course, now the question is whether there's anyone home." Dr. Warse said. He picked up a set of veiwers to scan the horizon.

((Shards?)) Shockingly, humans seemed to be a common Roo-ian feature. These humans, though, were just wrong. They had proboscises instead of mouths. They seemd drawn by the construction noise. All appeared to be female. Dethy, of course, completely misinterpreted the proboscises as a different similarly shaped body part, and made a comment that she'd like one as a boyfriend. ----- Vanasra looked out. Were these males plotting a rebellion? She would pound them into the ground. She would pound them into the hell they dug themselves in ancient times.
