(Again, something a few of you can remember....Due to the NO MODERN TECH rule, I've decided to make this separate from the Patchwork realms, or perhaps the threat contained in this realm....)
The history of Defbonia is a long and complex one, most of which was long fought wars between the dwarfs and the elves, with various assassinations and large bloody battles, most of which we will not be covering. One of the more modern major changing shifts was when the Humans elected a king to unify their scrap of villages and castles. This meant every race had a leader, and more diplomacy was used to secure trade routes. A time of relative peace followed, until the Human King(Sir Phillip the First) was assassinated by his cousin(Sir Jakob the First) and the humans fell back down to being controlled by their village rulers, albeit with trade relations with the dwarfs and elves, which secured a steady supply of goods and income.
Another major shift was the First Rip. A famous Alchemist decided to travel to the forest's search of elves, to test his new theory. To his surprise, he found a willing elf(who was an exile for unknown crimes) quite quickly, took the afternoon mixing various potions, and bewitched the cauldron. According to his papers, the experiment lifted itself up and started glowing a deep blue.
So, there was the second major shift, on the border of the Elves in a forest. The Alchemist and the Exile traveled the lands, setting up about ten different portals to see what the effects were. His travels were studied in greater detail in the book The Alchemist and The Exile, by my colleague Mr.Elder.
The third major shift was the dwarfs decision to isolate themselves in their mountain lairs, and break off all contacts. This is a very well documented shift, with the dwarves claiming that their oracles had proclaimed a disaster was abbout to strike, and isolations would save them.
The oracles had no idea how wrong they were.
