Cykuwel. Land of hopes.
Cykuwel. Land of dreams.
Cykuwel. Land of the future.
Cykuwel. Land of shame.
Cykuwel. Land of no return.
Cykuwel. Land of crime.
Cykuwel. Land of the law of the jungle.
Cykuwel is a rather large land mass. Its population is a bit under one million. According to most people outside it, it is run by a benevolent class known as the Titch. The Titch is a body of top scientists, sociologists, diplomats, and people of all skills. They run Cykuwel, according to themselves and most outside Cykuwel.
Anyone investigating further will find otherwise.
The Titch have no real power. They have some authority, but no means to enforce it. No inhabitants of Cykuwel other than the Titch themselves truly are obedient to the Titch. Furthermore, the Titch are all intellectuals, and thus have no physical strength to enforce their agenda. The Titch are less than a percentage of the population of Cykuwel, anyway. It would be quite possible to live your entire lifetime in Cykuwel and never encounter nor have your actions influenced by a Titch.
No, the true workings of Cykuwel are known only by its citizens. Cykuwel follows a strict social system. There are three factors contributing to your social status:Tribe, Caste and Class. Tribes are not "higher" or "lower" than one another, but form strong rivalries and alliances with one another. Caste is inherited from your parent of same gender. There are two main "groups" of Caste, Skig and Pop. The Skig take up roughly two thirds of the population, and are further subdivided. The Skig are very much lower than the Pop despite being the only Cykuwel inhabitants capable of technological invention, magical capability, and Springfeeding. Springs are unusual holes in the ground across Cykuwel that leak a powder. The Skig eat this powder. Due to their rough mistreatment by the Pop, the Skig's only reason for living is the happy feeling created by the powder in these Springs. This powder comes in multiple varieties, and different subcastes of Skig like different types.
The Pop take up roughly one third of the population. They have several subcaste, but not nearly as many as the Skig. They effectively rule the Skig, but do not have magical ability, and thus rely on the Skig to manufacture their magical weapons and items.
One subcaste of Pop are the Warriors. The Warriors wear brightly colored uniforms (the color varies based on Tribe) with brightly colored helmets. The helmets have a metal grating to protect their mouth. Warriors are all male, and are generally absurdly muscular. Their main weapon in combat is a dark red oblong ball-ish magical explosive, made by the Skig out of pigs.
Chirl, a female subcaste of Pop take on dual roles, on one hand as spies to investigate enemy tribes, and on the other hand to cheer Warriors on in battle by using magic self-replenishing hand-shot fireworks made out of ribbon. The colors of these ribbon fireworks are that of the Tribe.
The Studcont is a subcaste of Pop devoted to ruling the Tribe. They are a council, usually consisting of twelve. Though there are male Studcont, most are female.
There are other Pop subcaste, but these are the most notable three.
Finally, class. There are fourteen classes. All start their life at the lowest, but the Studcont votes to raise a person to the next higher class due to contributions to the tribe. It is far easier for Pop to advance than Skig, despite the Skig's greater contributions to the Tribe.
The classes, from lowest to highest are:
Prisk
Kinnd
Fore
Seg
Theer
Firth
Vithe
Zix
Veisen
Ayt
Fresm
Soff
June
Sine
Class is almost as important as Caste. An order from a Pop Sine is to be followed on threat of death, regardless of how absurd it may seem or how much the system is abused. Of note is the fact that June tend to suck up to Sine very much, presumably in an attempt to become one themselves. Fresm get the worst of it, as they have reached the point where noone feels sorry for them due to low class but are not high enough to actually do much.
Because of the rigid class structure, combined with a subtle sexism, it is nearly impossible for any male but a Sine to find a mate, as the Sine tend to demand all females from every class (generally producing age differences that would be uncomfortable to a civilized reader).
Cykuwel classes are divided into three groups:Elcykuwel for the first eight, Midcykuwel for Veisen and Ayt, and Hycykuwel for the last four.
