Okay, this is the planning thread for the first Realms RP.
First order of business is the realm itself.
To Little and Shiplord: I think that more people would be involved if the story was made up as we go along, and that a set location or mysterious storyline would put people off (After all, everyone wants to show off their respective character/region, and if one person drops out in the middle, we don't want the story to stall).
To make things fair, I'll gladly take any suggestions in this thread about how to achieve the most accessible or fun RP.
For the time being, I'll use the ol' RNG to generate a couple of names for the RP realm:
Artiaria Felingol Kelvil Ochta Berielin Framporop Kinebec Raglo Berriman Geirlie Lagormen Sicia
I also think that the location should be determined by the backstory of the characters, and what happens.
For instance, if you are pretending to be a guide, and say "We enter the swamp", then there is obviously a swamp in the realm.
So post your ideas and characters. The characters can be from your own realm, but no bringing the whole army!

Collaborative map once we get it started, to head off any confusion? I'm going to wait on my character. I don't want to bring in an Avashevir when everyone else is bringing in, say, Robin Hood.

Arpy City was intended to be a collaborative region, ie, I just make the first part, someone else makes the second part, someone else makes the third part, etc.

I PM'd you, Hyperion. Do you have any comment on that?
We need a Realm, with it's own history. The Infernals should be attacking it for a reason...

The point is, if we have a preset realm, and the GM that created it drops out, then all the others are left hanging.

True....
Your intial post sounds good. When should we start?

Why not make a collaborative realm? Also, if someone makes a realm for the RP, how does their dropping out effect anything? We can still use their realm.

A collab realm sounds fun.

Also, if someone makes a realm for the RP, how does their dropping out effect anything? We can still use their realm. The person who created it has the job of describing scenery and any native NPC's the players encounter, in addition to controlling their own character.

If they drop out that presumably goes to everyone else.

From what I've seen (and been through), people usually aren't willing to take on the risky burden of controlling someone else's creation. I say usually, because if there's enough information (a lot, by most standards) or they've spent enough time with it to learn it's ways (like interacting with it in an RP) some people might take the job.

Many times, when people try and start RPs in their own locations, they have a set story already planned. There isn't much freedom for the player, or it becomes annoying because the GM tries to force certain events.
The worst is when they try and incorporate the overarching story they have planned into the RP, and try and keep their mysterious plotpoints secret. The players no longer feel as if they are participating. It is simply a story, not an RP.

I say that for that reason the location should be collaborative.

How does this work. Any formats or something of that make?

Well, firstly, you need a Realms race to participate (Rules for that at the top of the board), or ask someone if you can play as one of theirs. The first option is highly recommended
